What this is
Lunch League Calendar Tool is a personal, non-commercial project by Luke Johnson. It
re-presents the rosters and schedules that Lunch League publishes, so a team can be read on a
phone — and, if you ask it to, it tells you about games you can play in.
What the messages are
If you give a mobile number, you may receive texts about games in your league —
and, if you are one of this site’s administrators, about the site’s own
messages — and nothing else:
- A substitute invitation — a request
to fill in for a team that is short. This is usually not your own team.
You are asked because your rating lets you play in that division, which is what a
substitute is.
- The answer to an offer you
made — that you are in for that game (with a link to add it to your
calendar if you want to), that somebody else took the slot, that the captain no
longer needs you for it after all, or that the game moved or was called off, so an
invitation you were sent for it is withdrawn. Nothing is needed from you.
- A notice that an email to you came back — if mail sent to
your address is rejected as undeliverable and you have a mobile number on file, you may be texted once to say so,
with a link to re-confirm the address. Until it is re-confirmed, messages go to your other channel instead.
- A confirmation when you reply something
we cannot read as a yes or a no, so you know it reached a person.
- Your captain changing your
answer — if they mark you out of a game, or into one, you are told.
Somebody else has committed you, or excused you, and the search for a substitute
may already have started.
- A message your captain writes to the
team — their own words, not ours, about the next game: who is
needed, what to bring, a change of plan. They can send at most three about any
one game in a day, and only to their own roster. Texts for this are off
unless you turn them on; by default it arrives as email.
- A change to one of your games
— it moved, changed rink, was cancelled or postponed, or its teams were set,
with the reason. If you were confirmed to fill in, it also says whether that
confirmation is released or kept. Texts for this are off unless you turn
them on and it arrives as email instead — except a change to a game
in the next 24 hours, which is also texted to you if we have your number, unless
you turned these texts off.
-
If you are a captain, news about your own team’s line-up —
somebody said yes to filling in, a substitute has pulled out, somebody replied without
a clear yes or no, people are waiting to be confirmed, or one was confirmed for you
because nobody had. These arrive because of what somebody else did, so they can come
at any hour.
- Replies to an event you posted —
who has said yes and the running total, at most once an hour however many people
answer at once. Off unless you turn it on; by default it arrives as email.
- Automatic renewal
— only if you turned it on for that division and season. One text when the league
opens sign-up, and one 30 days before the renewal takes effect at the season’s
first game (or as soon as that date is published). Each carries a link that cancels
the renewal in one tap. Nothing is submitted for you.
- A change to the score of a game you played
— when an admin approves a correction to that game’s gamesheet, both teams
are told the new score, the old one and the reason. Off unless you turn it on; by
default it arrives as email.
- Confirming your number —
one text when you first give a number, and the test message if you press the button
that sends one.
- If you are an administrator of this site, alerts
about its own messages — that automatic messages have been paused, that a
large mailing is waiting for your approval, or that sending is failing. At most one of
each kind an hour, and only to administrators who have confirmed their number.
There is no marketing and there is nothing to sell you. No third party sends
anything through this programme.
How you opt in
By typing your own mobile number into your settings on this site, after you have claimed your
own name from your team’s roster. No number is bought, guessed, or taken from the
league — the league publishes none, so there is nothing to take.
Giving a number is optional. Everything on this site works without one; you simply get email
instead.
How to stop them
Reply STOP to any message. That stops them immediately and for good. You can
also remove the number in your settings, or remove yourself from the directory entirely, which
takes the number with everything else.
Reply HELP to any message for help, or write to
luke@sweettech.ai.
How often
It follows your team’s season. In a typical week that is none to three
messages. It is higher only when a game is short of players and you are one of the people
who could fill in.
Cost
Message and data rates may apply. This site charges you nothing; your mobile
carrier’s own rates are between you and them.
Carriers
Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Your number
It is never sold, rented, or shared for anyone else’s marketing. It is
shared only with the messaging carrier that delivers the text, which is what makes delivery
possible. See the privacy statement for everything else this site
holds and how to remove it.
